Fall/Winter 2008 ~ Dr. Nasralla's Patient Newsletter

Another Year Gone By

As with years before, the Christmas season is upon us and we are counting down the days in a frantic rush to get all our shopping done. However, as I put these words to writing, I cannot help but think of Oprah and her mantra, "What are you grateful for?"

I am grateful for my wife and children. I am grateful for our health and our home. I am grateful for our friends and the opportunity to live in our beautiful valley that is part of our great nation. I am grateful for our business and the talented team who help run it; and of course I am grateful for you, our patients who have become part of our extended family. I thank you all for placing your trust and loyalty in our hands, we truly appreciate it. We look forward to serving your needs in 2009 but for now we wish you a Merry Christmas and a healthy and prosperous New Year.

Cheers and Keep Smiling,
Phil Nasralla

New Hours Beginning January 2009

Our office will be changing as of January 2009. We will be open Tuesday - Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and the door will be closed and locked from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm for lunch. We will schedule all large restorative, surgical, crown and bridge, root canal, and implant appointments in the morning and shorter appointments in the afternoon. These changes will help us schedule your appointments sooner with less delays and will allow Dr. Nasralla more time with you to focus on all your dental needs.

Accepting New Patients Like Yourselves

It has come to our attention that some of our patients are under the impression that we are a specialized office. We do general dentistry and focus on advanced cosmetic restorations. If you know of anyone who would benefit from the level of care that you have become accustomed to, please feel free to refer them to us as we are currently accepting New Patients at this time. If you would like, you could direct them to our new website at www.drphilthedentist.com where they can take a tour of the office and even follow the links to fill out the paper work required to become a patient in our office. Your referral is our greatest compliment.

A Message From Our Hygiene Department

Waxed, Unwaxed or Dental Tape?
Believe it or not, researchers have compared different types of dental floss to determine whether some are more effective than others to clean teeth. The bottom line is that there is not. Any type of floss will help promote clean teeth by removing food particles and bacteria. Personal preference will dictate what is best for you.

Types of Toothbrushes

  1. Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush: Also known as the "Power Toothbrush" is the kind that you plug into the wall to recharge. There are a variety of cleaning technologies used, such as oscillating-rotating or sonic.
  2. Manual Toothbrush: The basic toothbrushes you're probably accustomed to, with a plastic handle and various nylon bristle designs on the brush head.
  3. Battery Powered Toothbrush: A manual toothbrush with some vibration to add extra cleaning action.
Proper brushing technique varies according to brush type. If used correctly, each brush can offer good cleaning benefits. However, Battery and Manual toothbrushes require you to provide all the brushing action, while Electric toothbrushes do the work for you. For this reason, Electric toothbrushes have been shown to be more effective in removing plaque and improving gum health.

Understanding Insurance

If you have dental insurance and are feeling frustrated because they don't seem to pay what you are expecting, here are a few reasons why. Dental insurance companies are a business just like any other. They need to make money, hence the less money they pay out the more money they make. Most dental plans have their own fee guide, a template for procedures they will pay for and how much they will pay for each procedure. The insurance companies look at the treatment that you've had completed and try to find an alternative procedure code in their template that costs less or a loophole or reason why they will not pay for the treatment that you have received. Most insurance companies will send you Newsletters full of uninteresting information that most people do not spend the time to read, amongst this information are changes to your dental insurance, procedures that are no longer covered or changes to limits or frequencies. Dental offices are never sent this information! We only have the information you have given us about your plan. If you are concerned about this, we ask you to bring us all updated information on your dental plan when you receive it and we will be happy to update your file in our system. Our team does not let insurance companies dictate what treatment you will have completed in our office. We plan and complete treatment based on your health needs and not your dental insurance policy.
