Dr. Nasralla, a specially trained neuromuscular dentist, says that years of research went into designing the mouth guard. “It begins with looking at how the body functions as a whole,” he says. “Over 90% of the population has an overbite, and one the negative effect of an overbite is it causes muscle tension. When the head and jaw muscles are tense, the body can’t perform at its peak. Strength is lost and balance is diminished. He says that the key to getting the perfect fit is the use of state-of-the-art computer equipment which monitors the condition of the jaw muscles so that the dentist can determine the optimal bite position. "Once we know where the optimal bite position is, we can fit the mouth guard," he says. "So whenever an athlete puts the device in their mouth, it will hold the jaw in the perfect position, freeing up the rest of the body to perform at its best.” The PPM can also improve performance for those with occupational physical demands like police officers, paramedics, firefighters, loggers, movers, physical and massage therapists and nurses to name a handful of professions.
